Haas F1 Maintains Ferrari Wind Tunnel Usage Despite Toyota Partnership

by Marica Caruso
Despite a new technical collaboration with Toyota, Haas F1 Team will continue utilizing Ferrari's wind tunnel facilities.

The Haas Formula 1 Team has announced that it will continue to utilize Ferrari’s wind tunnel facilities in Maranello, Italy, even after entering into a technical partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing. This decision underscores Haas’s ongoing commitment to its established relationship with Ferrari, which has been in place since the team’s debut in 2016.

Team Principal Ayao Komatsu emphasized that the collaboration with Toyota is designed to complement, rather than replace, the existing Ferrari partnership. “We will continue to use the Maranello wind tunnel to design our future F1 cars and will carry on buying Ferrari gearbox and suspension parts,” Komatsu stated. This approach allows Haas to benefit from Ferrari’s proven infrastructure while integrating Toyota’s design, technical, and manufacturing expertise.

The partnership with Toyota aims to enhance Haas’s competitiveness by leveraging Toyota Gazoo Racing’s advanced resources. However, Toyota has clarified that it will not be supplying power units to Haas, and the team will remain a Ferrari customer for engines until at least the end of 2028.

By maintaining its use of Ferrari’s wind tunnel, Haas ensures continuity in its aerodynamic development processes. This strategy allows the team to build upon its existing knowledge base while incorporating new insights from Toyota’s technical contributions. The dual partnerships position Haas to strengthen its performance in the highly competitive Formula 1 landscape.
